Product Review: HomeRight Super Finish Max Paint Sprayer

If anyone else is impatient like me when it comes to paint I'm sure you have thought about investing in a paint sprayer a time or two. I was able to partner with HomeRight give their Finish Max Super Paint Sprayer a go. So is all the prep work of using a paint sprayer really worth it? Let's find out...

First Impressions

When I first opened up the HomeRight Finish Max Super Paint Sprayer there was a thick set of instructions that seemed a bit daunting. I mean, how hard can it be? Don't I just point and spray? No, don't do that. These instructions, while lengthy are full of important information like which tips and nozzles to use for certain project types and how to clean the sprayer thoroughly.

What's Included?

The Finish Max Super sprayer comes with the actual sprayer, a plastic paint container that holds about 40 ounces, 3 different metal tips, and 2 nozzles that changes your spray pattern.

So what's all this stuff for?

The tip sizes come in small (blue), medium (green), and large (red) and allow you to adjust how much paint flows through. Use the biggest tip for large, less detailed projects like walls or ceilings and the smallest for pieces of furniture.

The 2 nozzles change the spray pattern and how much air it allows out. The black air cap is for a finer spray pattern whereas the yellow is used for a wider spray pattern.

What's NOT Included?

So we know what we have but what else do we need?

You can't start any paint sprayer project without some really necessary supplies.

1. You will need some masking material like a plastic tarp or a roll of masking film or paper.

2. For safety reasons it's necessary to have a good quality mask or respirator to filter out all of

the fumes and paint particles flying around everywhere.

3. Goggles or glasses to keep the particles out of your eyes

4. Paint thinner if you're using an oil based paint.

Using the Paint Sprayer

I first used the Finish Max Super Sprayer on the office built-ins we put in. I made sure to cover up every inch around the built ins so no paint got on the walls or floors. These paint particles are super small and spread; so if your masking doesn't extend out a few feet you may see some overspray.

Before I pulled the trigger on the built ins I tested the sprayer on the back of the cabinets.

It's really important that you test the tips and nozzles you are using to make sure the paint output is good for your project. Also, test the intensity that the control knob is set on. It's better to start with a lower setting than higher. The control knob is a little notched dial on the sprayer that controls how much paint the sprayer lets out. More paint also equals more overspray so keep that in mind. I started my sprayer at a pretty low output and then increased until I found a setting that allowed enough paint out but avoided too much overspray or messy paint pattern.

When using a paint sprayer multiple thin coats will get you the best finish. You want to follow a straight sweeping pattern when using the sprayer, keeping the distance from the sprayer to your project the same. If you spray too much paint out or too close to your project you are going to get paint runs.

Pros and Cons

Pro: Inexpensive! It's more expensive than a few paint rollers but this is an investment you can continue to use for future projects and the Home Right Super Finish Max Sprayer comes it between $100-$150.

Pro: Adjustable coverage. I used the very lowest and the highest setting while testing the sprayer out and it makes a world of difference. This setting is super adjustable so you can fine tune it so it's perfect for your specific project.

Pro: Smooth Even Coverage! (If you follow the directions and apply correctly)

Con: Very necessary to thoroughly clean each and every time. This is not like a paintbrush you can keep moist and use at a later time. However, this con is across *almost* all paint sprayers. Cleaning is just a necessary evil.

Con: Small-ish paint bin, you have to refill quite a bit but I suppose any larger and the sprayer will start to get too heavy.

The Final Score

For hobbyists / amateur DIYers I truly don't think you can get better than the Home Right Super Finish Max Sprayer. It is a quality project with an inexpensive price tag that produces beautiful paint jobs if you are diligent in your prep work and cleaning.

This sprayer was a savior when I painted my built ins. I avoided ugly brush strokes and the pain that would have been painting between all the nooks and crannies. I definitely recommend this paint sprayer for anyone wanting to elevate their DIYs!
